Municipal bulletins

The Municipal Bulletins of the City of Brussels contain the reports of Municipal Council meetings and the reports of the City's departments and services since the 19th century.

These Municipal Bulletins are published by the City and offer an overview of its decisions and the actions it has undertaken. They provide an understanding of the wide variety of debates and questions of concern to municipal councillors relating to the political, social, economic and cultural life of Brussels.

These Bulletins have been published directly on the City's website since 2002.

The printed Bulletins from earlier periods have been digitised by the City Archives and can be consulted via a search engine.

Search engine

The search engine allows the Municipal Bulletins to be found easily according to their year of publication. The Bulletins are divided into different but equal parts to make them easier to download. Opening the PDF files, which feature text recognition (OCR), makes it possible to search by word in each file (using the ad hoc option).

The same search engine makes it possible to access the collection of Municipal Bulletins using a cross-functional index (by criterion and by sector). These are most representative words in the Bulletin texts, at least within the results obtained by optical character recognition. These words have been sorted alphabetically in a list of criteria and have also been grouped according to the sectors of activity in the City. The number of occurrences of each word is always mentioned in brackets.

The original Municipal Bulletins and the non-digitised years can be consulted in the reading room of the City Archives.

Laeken Municipal Bulletins

The Archives of the City of Brussels hold the Municipal Bulletins of the municipality of Laeken from 1873 to 1894. The Municipal Bulletin was no longer printed after this date. A digital version for 1874 and from 1879 to 1894 can be consulted on the City of Brussels website.
